This increase from the previous ₹500 aims to provide greater economic support to women who have lost their spouses and belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Additionally, some beneficiaries have reported delays in pension disbursal, prompting the state to set up grievance redressal mechanisms, including a dedicated helpline.
The enhanced pension has sparked discussions about its adequacy, with activists arguing that ₹1,000 per month, while an improvement, may still fall short of addressing rising living costs.
